The course introduces students to basic film terminology and key concepts of cinema. It develops their ability to “read” and analyse the cinematic image, understand its structure and presentation, and critically evaluate film. Students gain insight into the narrative and aesthetic dimensions of cinema, moving from passive viewers to active analysts.

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

• recognize basic elements of cinematic language; 
• analyse different examples of film language; 
• use appropriate film terminology in film analysis.
